French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius rushed to his car and refused to make any comments to the press as he left the emergency French defence council meeting in the Elysee Palace in Paris, Wednesday. Earlier on Wednesday, French President Francois Hollande called the emergency meeting, after WikiLeaks revealed that the US National Security Agency (NSA) had targeted French politicians and diplomats, including current President Hollande and former presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and Jacques Chirac. In a press statement, WikiLeaks said the proof lay in top secret intelligence reports and documents that they began publishing online on Tuesday under the name "Espionnage Elysee." The information, which dates back ten years, reportedly features the phone numbers of French politicians and diplomats, as well as intelligence summaries of talks between French diplomats and other EU politicians on critical subjects including the Greek debt crisis, the German NSA scandal, and the future of the EU.
