15.04.2015
Poland's land border with Russia's Kaliningrad enclave is set to be bolstered by the construction of six new observation towers, footage revealed in Goldap on Wednesday. The towers are expected to stand between 35m (115ft) and 50m (164ft) once constructed, installed and operational. The Polish-Kalingrad border stretches for some 200km (124 miles). The towers will be fitted with security cameras to help watch the border 24 hours a day, with images streamed directly to control desks where officials will monitor the footage. The total cost is reported to be 14m zloty (€3.7m / $3.8m). Approximately 3.2 million Poles and 3.3 million Russians passed through the border crossing in 2014 alone.
