Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the shelling of the Russian embassy in Damascus a "terrorist act" aimed at "intimidating" supporters of the fight against "terrorism" and "preventing" them from adequately carrying out the fight against terrorists, during a press conference in Moscow, Tuesday. "Regarding the shelling of our Embassy in Damascus, our ambassador confirmed the media reports," he said. "Two shells hit the embassy territory: one fell on the playground, another - on the roof of a residential compound. Thankfully, no one was injured. This is an obvious terrorist act conducted in order to intimidate supporters in the fight against terror and prevent them from prevailing in the fight against extremists," he stated. Earlier on Tuesday, hundreds of people gathered near the Russian embassy to express their gratitude and support for the Russian authorities' provision of military assistance to Syria.
