UK: Corbyn joins rally calling for re-nationalisation of railways as train fares rise

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn joined union leaders calling for the re-nationalisation of UK railways in London, Tuesday, the same day that the British government is due to announce another hike in ticket fares.
Corbyn was accompanied by members of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA), the Rail, Maritime and Transport workers' union (RMT), the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF) and Unite rail unions outside London Bridge Station, as part of the campaign, held under the slogan 'Action for Rail'.
Head of the TSSA Union Manuel Cortes who attended the rally said: "We are calling for public ownership of our railways. The reason for this is that the private operators make huge profits. Last year alone they paid over £220 million in dividends to the shareholders. We think that this money will be better used to cut the fares of long suffering passengers."
Cortes expressed hope that when Corbyn becomes the UK's Prime Minister, re-nationalisation of the railways "will be one of the first policies that will be implemented in our country" because he believes "passengers have had enough of paying the highest fares in Europe for a second-rate service."
